MANU JUNGLE AMAZON ITINERARY
DAY 01 CUSCO – PILCOPATA AMAZON JUNGLE LODGE
Departure from Cusco towards the PRE-Inca cultures of Ninamarca, crossing high mountains to reach the typical and folkloric town of Paucartambo, where we will have lunch and a short walk. Then, we will continue our journey to the highest point of Tres Cruces, from where we will descend to the town of Bosques Nublados, where we will observe Peru's national bird, the Cock-of-the-Rock, as well as other birds, medicinal plants, flowers, and various animals. We will arrive at our lodge in the afternoon, where we will spend the night in accommodations with private bathrooms and showers.
DAY 02 PILCOPATA – ATALAYA – PAPAYA LODGE
Before breakfast, we will go on a hike, and along the way, we will have the opportunity to observe some birds and small monkey species. After a two-hour hike, we can enjoy a well-deserved breakfast upon reaching Atalaya, where we will continue our journey by boat. After approximately 4 hours of boat navigation, we will reach our lodge. On this day, during our boat journey, we may have the chance to see some monkeys, macaws, toucans, herons, cormorants, etc. Before arriving at our lodge, we will visit the Shintuya hot springs for a relaxing bath. In the evening, after settling into our lodge, we will take a 45-minute walk to the Mammal Collpa (Clay Lick), where we can observe tapirs, deer, and some rodent species such as porcupines and pacas. We will spend the night in a hideout in the middle of the jungle.
DAY 03 PAPAYA LODGE – JUNGLE EXPEDITION – PAPAYA LODGE
On this day, we will return to our lodge for breakfast, and after breakfast, we will embark on a hike to explore some of the trails in the area. In this zone, we can observe different monkey species, capybaras, and many bird species, including tanagers, flycatchers, parrots, macaws, hawks, and manakins. Besides birds, we may also spot peccaries and maybe even a jaguar or puma. In the afternoon, we will visit a lake near our lodge where we will spend part of the day fishing for piranhas and wolf fish. To end the day in the late afternoon, we will visit a nearby lake where we can observe some caimans.
DAY 04 PAPAYA LODGE – PILCOPATA – CUSCO
On this day, we will start our journey back to Cusco. The first part will be by boat to Atalaya, and from there, we will continue our journey through the Cloud Forest and Paucartambo. We will arrive in Cusco between 4 pm and 7 pm.
